While vacationing, sunbathing, and immersing myself in a book on a beach in midtown, Ocean City, I noticed a woman in her late 30s or early 40s enjoying the beach with her husband. They both seemed extremely happy together, and their lean and fit appearances were noticeable as they strolled around, radiating love and joy. After some time, I returned to my book. However, moments later, the same woman approached to retrieve a beach ball that had rolled my way. To my surprise, I recognized her as a former colleague from SEI, Philly, although we had only parted ways about one and a half years ago.
Hesitant to ask, I was taken aback by her changed physique, as we had both been the more robust members of our team. But she recognized me, exclaiming, “Jenn, what a surprise to see you here!” We exchanged hugs and cheek kisses, reminiscing about our past and present. She inquired about Nick, to which I explained we had separated. Without prying further, she introduced me to her charming husband, who had a way with words that could captivate many women. She mentioned they had dinner plans and suggested we meet the next day at the Coffee Beanery, a popular café in Ocean City, before departing.
Her transformation kept me intrigued, so I resolved to ask about it. Arriving at the café 30 minutes early, eager for her story, I was again stunned by her appearance. When I broached the subject, she anticipated my curiosity and expressed her eagerness to share her secret, hinting at our shared struggle with weight.
